Farmers and ranchers are being urged to use caution when making hay and feed-related purchases.
According to Saskatchewan RCMP and Livestock Services Saskatchewan, several producers in the province have been the victims of fraud in trying to purchase hay.
In the cases, advertisements placed on social media and other buy/sell platforms requested immediate payment, even prior to the buyer seeing the hay. These were later learned to be scams.
In similar news this week, Swift Current Online reported on a theft of 12 hay bales south of Hazenmore, Saskatchewan. The bales were discovered missing between July 14 and 30, 2021. Their value is estimated at $2400.
