The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) is launching a relief program to work with farmers across the country to move hay to drought-stricken livestock producers in the west.
The initiative, called Hay West 2021, is operating on a break-even basis. Hay supplied through the program will be sold to selected applicants at $0.10 per pound. Freight costs will be covered.
“The Hay West program is an amazing example of the kindness of farmers and how farmers across Canada, despite their many differences, have each other’s backs when true disaster strikes. Farmers are donating thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars worth of hay to support those struggling from the drought. It’s incredibly heartening to see the response that we have from those farmers that have been more fortunate this year.”
Mary Robinson, CFA President
Of course, Hay West 2021 can not guarantee the provision of hay to every applicant. Selected applicants will be contacted with further details.
All recipients must be able to receive and unload a flatbed trailer.
