Monthly Minute: Staff update, AgriStability enrolment, and skimping on vaccinations

The ABP Monthly Minute is your monthly re-cap of everything you need to know about what is happening at Alberta Beef Producers in 60 seconds or less.

Updates from ABP

We are pleased to announce Donald Poitras, CPA, CGA, MBA, has joined our team as Controller. Donald will work closely with Laura Procunier to ensure a smooth transition as her retirement approaches in June.

Donald is a senior accounting professional with over 20 years of diverse accounting experience and a master’s degree in business administration from the London School of Finance and Business. He brings a broad range of accounting experience related to financial statements, budgeting and forecasting, and extensive detailed reconciliation.

Fluent in both official languages, Donald is also a Commissioner of Oaths and former member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Government Desk

ABP is working with other agriculture stakeholders and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Economic Development to review the business risk management suite of tools available to producers. Negotiations for the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership agreement will start this summer and be implemented in 2023.

The Canadian government has extended the 2022 AgriStability enrolment deadline from April 30 to June 30, 2022, giving farmers more time to sign up for the program.

With the removal of the reference margin limit, producers are encouraged to review the program to see if AgriStability works on their operation.

Skimping on your vaccination or vitamin and mineral programs may save you in the short term, but can set you up for long-lasting negative consequences.
