In the past couple of weeks, Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) has had the distinct pleasure to share stories and perspectives with both mainstream and beef production audiences through various channels. From explaining what drought means to ranchers to considering some favorite cuts for barbecue season, here are some of our latest guest appearances:
Areas in the province are experiencing extremely dry conditions. Last week, Karin Schmid, ABP’s Beef Production and Extension Lead joined 770 CHQR and guest host Angela Kokott for a discussion on how the drought conditions are impacting beef producers in the province.
Stepping up the collaboration in diagnostic services
“Some areas in the south are actually estimated to be at a one in 50 year moisture deficit. And in the Peace [region] it’s a one in 25 year moisture deficit,” says Schmid. “Because our beef production system relies on forage and grass to get those cattle through the summer, deficits in moisture can really have a large impact on how we’re able to do that.”
