Animal Health Canada (AHC) has released its report on the animal health components of the Plant and Animal Health Strategy for Canada.
“AHC is well positioned to be a leader in coordination, collaboration, and communication on behalf of all Canadian partners and to provide a formal structure for industry-government collaboration on shared animal health and welfare priorities,” says René Roy, Animal Health Canada Co-Chair. “The lessons learned, and opportunities demonstrated by the advances made in relation to farmed animal health and welfare over the last five years are valuable, and will inform our next steps as an organization.”
“The report clearly identifies the value industry and government partners have found working in collaboration to promote animal health in Canada,” says Dr. Nina von Keyserlingk, Chair, PAHS Working Group within AHC. “The findings of the report underscore the important work of all stakeholders and provide clear insight on a shared path forward together.”
The Plant and Animal Health Strategy (PAHS) was developed in 2017 by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and AHC was tasked with coordinating the report on the animal health aspects. Their assessment includes information collected by ACER Consulting on how PAHS has influenced animal health progress, successes, and challenges over the past five years.
